Offered here is one, H. H. Scott 121 preamp (the original), perfect for a wonderful mono LP / 78 system. From the burgeoning days of HiFi -- this was one of HH Scott's earliest hifi centric preamp products. Very contemporaneous and comparable to the McIntosh C-8 or the Fisher-80C or of course, the now priceless Marantz Model 1. The Scott 121 series actually predates quite a few other options available to the collector. These beautiful sounding and extremely versatile preamps are just what's needed if you listen to classic Vinyl or even older 78s (this in fact is your best choice for 78's). The selections for record EQ & noise filters are unsurpassed on these models for old record & tape formats. You also get a killer smooth cathode follower circuit and tons of inputs for your hopefully all tube single ended, PP, or vintage Williamson amp / horn driver system!
The preamp comes fully tubed up, with vintage 1950's USA built triodes.
This is a very rare bird. Looks to be entirely original.
The pre-amp was not tested and should be serviced before use. Please only bid if you are a qualified technician or have access to one. This pre-amp is 70 years old!!!
The LP / Phono / 78 section is obsessively complete for nearly any record you'll see -- from BBS, Decca, to old RCA's -- it's all there. You also get Scott's interesting proprietary technology to supress old record's inherrent rumble & noise. The 121 also features a near endless variety of other AUX and pickup inputs.
A single Scott 121 -- coupled with a nice amp, is all you need for an amazing monophonic, period correct LP, tape, mic, CD, etc -- input that you could ever wish. These early 121's feature a mini triode packed layout layout, with high quality point to point wiring throughout. Shielded wires deliver audio all crucial control sections. The tremendous number of switchable inputs provide a dizzying array of flexibility to your system -- I counted a total of 8 individual inputs -- 5 of which, have individually adjustable trim pots -- this allows you to get all of your sources to all the right level, then switch magically between them -- in true Audio Consolette fashion -- really dreamt of in 1950's!
This is a very early model of 121; right before H.H.Scott moved the factory in the mid-late 1950s. These early product's show allot of slowly hand-built precision quality charm. The treatment of these early models is unique to the era ... the aluminum cabinet is wrapped with real-tooled leather! The many years have left the cabinet very handsome -- with natural crazing, nicks and minor scratches -- that look very early american-authentic -- kind of like a 100 year old cowboy saddle! The unbelievable natural feel is wonderful, and quite natural. Around the perimeter the real leather, received inlay tooling -- mostly still intact and equally handsome.
H.H. Scott was one of the top quality major producers of HiFi during the 1950's & 60's. HH Scott, before starting his own company, worked very briefly & Bell Labs. In no time at all he moved over to General Radio -- America's MOST FANATICAL, highest quality electronics manufacturing outfit. Because GR was THE leader in the test equipment field -- this history is overlooked really -- all GR equipment was built to a far higher standard -- than all of the industrial/home audio field combined ... even Western Electric didn't bother to try that hard. It's working there I am guessing HH grabbed allot of electronics engineering, hand-on talent -- right before starting his own company -- just in time for the HiFi craze. And GR is probably where he developed his love of high quality ALUMINIUM riveted, on-chassis construction. Most early USA HiFi brands built on cheaper steel or perforated sheet metal.
HH Scott products like these 121 preamps -- were always aluminum! Scott's chassis are lightweight, longer lived, handle heat better and look more beautiful.
Herman Scott, and one of the true HiFi pioneers, developed several early HiFi features & advancements . His most famous, and useful was Dynaural Noise Supression. Early special purpose DNR units in the 1940's featured gangs of tubes. This tube-era noise supression technology -- during the 1940's got marketed and licensed to all sort's of Broadcast / Recording outfits ... and later even other HiFi manufactures. So useful to early audiophiles .. even major competitor's like Fisher -- and E.H Scott (a scource of much confusion) -- had to license from HH Scott. Most early LP & 78 listeners really like Scott's take & method of Noise Supression -- and it's all tube -- and switchable right on the main panel of these 121 preamps
For those audiophiles who treasure old Jazz 78's -- set up a second system, all MONO. Use a high quality tube preamp like this, a SE amp and a high efficiency full range...you'll be very happy!
