VERY UNUSUAL CACHET COMMEMORATING THE 91ST ANNIVERSARY (!!!) OF THE LANDING OF THE PITCAIRN ISLANDERS AT NORFOLK ISLAND.
There appear to be NO rips, tears, wrinkles, yellowing, or age marks.  The postal transit markings on the reverse were applied in Sydney, Australia (6 July), New York (12 July), and Astoria, Oregon (14 July 1947).
TEMPORARY REGISTERED MAIL LABEL #194
has 24mm "NORFOLK ISLAND" lightly-stamped marking inserted in purple ink (see last image for a better illustration of the label ONLY).

decision
to issue the Norfolk Island "Ball Bay" stamps - the Island's first independent issue -
predates
their actual release by
ten years
!
• 1914 - Norfolk Island comes under Australian Government Control, and is part of the Australian Postal System
•
1937
- Australian Govt decides to establish a separate Postal Authority on Norfolk Island
• 1938 (January) to 1940 (January) -Stamps designs prepared, approved for engraving and production completed by the Note Printing Branch, Melbourne
• 1941 (December) - Australia enters World War II, imposes ½d War Tax on all postal articles, and suspends the already-completed stamp issue
• 1946 (February) - decision is taken to issue the stamps, but owing to the War Tax, the denominations are obsolete, and the colors do not conform to UPU regulations for the most commonly used postal rates, resulting in the entire production being destroyed
• 1947 (10 June) -  the stamps, now printed in the corrected colors and denominations, and imprinted with "PRINTED BY THE AUTHORITY OF THE GOVERNMENT OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA" replace the original "JOHN ASH" imprint, and are sent to Norfolk Island
