    RELEVANT NORFOLK ISLAND HISTORY
    :  From 1788 to 1814, and again from 1825 to 1855, Norfolk was used as a Penal Colony. After its final abandonment, Queen Victoria offered Norfolk to the Pitcairn Islanders as a gift, to be their new home. They were suffering overcrowding and difficult times at Pitcairn. The whole population was transported to Norfolk Island on "HMS Morayshire", where they landed on 8 June 1856, after a 6-week voyage.
