This is the first of two sets of five 57mm x 25mm stamps to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of the Pitcairn Islanders at Norfolk Island in 1856. It traces Fletcher Christian's and HMAV
Bounty's history,
departing Portsmouth, England in 1789, collecting breadfruit plants at Tahiti, the Mutiny near Tonga, and the ship being scuttled and burned at Pitcairn in 1790.
The gorgeous designs also capture the arrival of the descendants of the mutineers at Norfolk Island in 1856 (.80 stamp). There are two 50c designs: the
Bounty
at Portsmouth (1789) and collecting breadfruit at Tahiti. The .20 shows Bligh cast adrift after the mutiny; the .50 shows
Bounty
being burned after reaching Pitcairn on 23 January 1790. Beautiful stamps !!
