    Description

    Up for Auction is a
" Very Nice" Vintage Phase Linear 4000 Series II Preamplifier
. It is a very attractive looking unit and will go well with your Series II Vintage Phase Linear stereo gear. I had the unit cleaned, serviced, and tested several years ago.
I did not however use it very much,
before putting it on the storage shelf. I had (3) of these 4000 Series II units, so none of them have gotten much use. I've ended up using a Carver C4000t
    most of the time,
for my personal system. This last month I pulled it out of storage and had the switches and pots recleaned.
The other day, I was playing my Ipod through it and one of my Phase Linear 700 amps, using some HPM 150 speakers and "
    Wow
", it really sounds great. Everything worked perfectly with
    one (1)
little exception. I noticed that when I pushed the button in for the Infrasonic Filter, the left channel sound dropped out. I don't know what that is all about. I'm not a stearo Tech. When I released the button everything went back to perfect. I don't know if that's a dirty or just a bad switch. I will say though, that I virtually never use the Infrasonic Filter, so for me it's not a big deal. I've always loved my Phase Linear gear. While I was in the Air Force and stationed in Germany, I bought my first Series I 4000, 400, and 5000 units, and I still have them to this day. My auction is for this Preamplifier only, and it is being sold
As/Is with No expressed warranty and No returns
, however, it is guaranteed to work beautifully,
    except as stated
. For your and my security, I've documented and photographed all it's internal components to ensure nothing can be messed with. I will make sure that I package it very carefully for safe shipment.
    Detailed Description...Please Read:
This is a very nice looking vintage unit.
The facepate is very nice with few blemishes, and the black lettering is in pretty nice condition. The knobs are in very good condition, with the unit overall presenting quite nicely. The knobs are the later machined steel type that have the ability to be buffed to high luster if so desired.
    I
    can't
however, call it mint or even close to mint, as (1) the white lettering on the faceplate switches has become faded over the years, (2) there are a few scratches/scuffs/nicks here and there. (3) Now that I know the Infrasonic Filter switch is not working properly, and (4) for some reason, the units prior owner had left some stubborn tape residue on the rear panel that doesn't look the greatest. I've tried to show the unit as well as I can in the attached pics and tried to give a detailed description of its operational performance. If you don't touch the Infrasonic Filter button, it works beautifully. I was going to start the unit at 9 but I'm reducing it a 0 to cover a tech repairing the switch, and starting it at 9 instead. I think this would be a great add to anyone's collection especially when it is 100% again. Now, in my later years, I'm selling off the bulk of my audio gear because I just don't use or want to collect them anymore. I had (3) of these Series II Preamps when I started selling them, this is number two. I'll keep my original mint unit. If you have any additional questions don't hesitate to ask me. I've tried to describe this preamp as accurately as I can. Bid with confidence (

    .
    Note:
This unit is from the USA so it is set for
    120V
power. I am told that when overseas with 240V, people just use a step down transformer for 120V power.
